UND finalizes radio rights deal with iHeart Media – Grand Forks Herald
GRAND FORKS — UND has finalized a deal to retain its radio rights with iHeart Media.
The contract is for four years with a pair of two-year options that could take him up to eight years.
UND will pay $69,000 in flagship fees and $21,000 in affiliate fees for the first two years of the agreement. These totals will go up to $71,000 and $23,000 for the third year and $73,000 and $23,000 for the fourth year.
UND, in turn, sells commercials during broadcasts and retains sales revenue.
UND men’s football and hockey games will air on The Fox (96.1 FM) in Grand Forks as well as affiliate stations in Bismarck, Minot and Dickinson. Women’s and men’s basketball will air on Cat Country (100.3 FM). Volleyball, softball and the weekly one-hour coach show will air on The Fan (2:40 p.m.).
The shows will also stream on the iHeart app.

Two entities bid for the radio rights – iHeart and Leighton Broadcasting.
In a scoring system with three categories – work approach (65%), experience/qualifications (10%) and cost summary (25%) – iHeart outscored Leighton from 78.22 to 69.06.
On June 23, UND informed both parties of its intention to assign the rights to iHeart. He finalized the deal this week.
The contract spells out a number of required on-air promotions on iHeart radio stations, including ticket giveaways, in-studio conversations with UND athletes, and weekend preview spots.
UND employs and supplies on-air talent for live broadcasts.
Tim Hennessy is the longtime voice of the UND men’s hockey team. Jack Michaels calls out Fighting Hawks football and women’s basketball games. Paul Ralston calls men’s basketball UND.
UND football matches will feature hour-long pre-match and post-match shows. Men’s hockey and men’s and women’s basketball games will have 30-minute pre-game and post-game broadcasts.
UND is still finalizing its TV rights deal with Midco. It should be finished within a week. UND informed Midco on June 23 that it intended to retain its TV rights with the network.
