Tony Simeone takes control of Notre-Dame men’s basketball – Notre Dame Fighting Irish – official athletics site
Tony Simeone, a seasoned 10-year-old host with experience both on the microphone and in the production studio, has been selected as the new ‘Voice of Notre Dame Men’s Basketball’ and will assume his duties as Irish play-by-broadcaster. play when the exhibition season kicks off Friday October 29, 2021 against Nazareth College.
âI couldn’t be more excited for the opportunity to serve as the play-by-play voice for Notre Dame men’s basketball,â said Simeone.
âNotre Dame has offered me incredible opportunities over the past five plus years, but none quite as monumental as this one. It’s a lifelong dream to be the main broadcaster for a college basketball team and I can’t wait to get to work. Coach Brey is one of America’s best coaches, and I can’t wait to cover him, his players and staff as they go through the best college basketball conference.
A 2011 graduate of Pepperdine, Simeone honed his broadcast skills during his undergraduate years, in the Northwoods League (college summer baseball league), at Harvard (men’s and women’s basketball, hockey) and more. recently he was the spokesperson for college hockey on the NBCSports network.
Simeone (pronounced sim-ee-oh-nee) is skilled both on camera, on the radio mic, and in the production booth. He produced, filmed and edited original content for Harvard Track and Field from 2014 to 2016, then was hired by Fighting Irish Media of Notre Dame in August 2016 to direct and produce live events for ESPN3, the ACC network and WatchND.tv.
While he helped develop Fighting Irish Media’s award-winning live broadcasts, the broadcast booth appeal continued for the Seattle, Washington native. Television appearances on the ACC network for men’s basketball, women’s soccer and hockey – as well as a full season as Notre Dame’s play-by-play talent in women’s basketball in 2020-2021 – have motivated him to pursue a career. full-time broadcasting career.
âOver the past three seasons, Tony has become a regular presence on NBC Sports’ coverage of Notre Dame hockey,â said Mark Bellotti, coordinating producer for NBC Sports.
âHe’s a play-by-play advertiser in the making. Its high energy styling is a great match for speed and intensity on the ice and the basketball court.
Simeone takes over the microphone from Jack Nolan, who retired at the end of the 2020-21 season and was a member of the Notre Dame men’s basketball broadcast team for 39 years, the last 15 of which as that voice play-by-play.
âAs a colleague over the past five years, I have seen firsthand the immeasurable impact that Jack Nolan has had on this athletic department and it has been felt most deeply and passionately by the basketball team. masculine, âSimeone said.
âI also learned a lot from him about how to be a professional broadcast and prepare for the job with a relentless work ethic. No one can replace Jack, but I will certainly do my best to follow his path.
Simeone (you can follow him on Twitter at @TonySimeonePxP) debuted this football season as a studio host for the Notre Dame football radio network, anchoring the show with play-by-play announcer Paul Burmeister and analyst Ryan Harris. He will also host The Mike Brey Radio Show and Inside Notre Dame Basketball.
