Dallas, TexasNokia today announcement he improved the State of Vermont Ministry of Public Security(DPS) microwave communication networkwhosupports the critical mission communication needs formanysstate agencies. The fully implemented microwave solution provides the sstate with increased speeds, more flexibility and resilience and higher bandwidth to support modern communication applications, such as video, for sound throughout the state public safety network.

The State of Vermont DPS is responsible for promoting the detection and prevention of crime, assisting in searches for lost and missing people, and providing assistance in the event of a disaster or emergency throughout the ‘State or local. All divisions of the department – Vermont State Police, Vermont Emergency Management, Vermont Crime Information Center, Radio Technology Services, Vermont Forensics Lab, and Division of Fire Safety – are supported by Nokia’s microwave radio network.

The state of Vermont has replaced its older microwave radios with Nokia’s Wavence IP routing and packet microwave radios families. This network upgrade allows the State of Vermont to continue to provide highly reliable and secure connectivity for its public safety communication needs today, while enhancing the network for higher capacity and improved availability with a platform that will carry it well in the future.

Nokia’s Wavence portfolio incorporates features specifically designed to meet the unique needs of the State of Vermont by supporting its TDM traffic while also providing a flexible and scalable backhaul network for new IP / MPLS applications. The state chose the Wavence Microwave Service Switch (MSS) because of the advanced networking, aggregation and demarcation features of Carrier Ethernet and the Wavence Microwave Packet Transceiver ( MPT-HLC) which offers high system gain allowing the use of smaller antennas and reduced tower load. Wavence solutions allow the State of Vermont to expand its network to support the capacity requirements of a new IP architecture while increasing network reliability and availability without impacting existing applications.

The government solution also includes Nokia’s 7705 Aggregation of Services Router (SAR) which delivers faster transport services with dynamic assurance, maximum performance and high reliability for first responders.
