New Rewind Radio station begins broadcasting in Cornwall and Plymouth
A new Cornish radio station has started broadcasting in Cornwall and the Plymouth area – and it features some very well known voices.
Rewind Radio was licensed to broadcast by Ofcom in September and aired on October 7, covering all of Cornwall and Plymouth and as far as Ivybridge and Okehampton.
The commercial station, broadcasting from a studio in Constantine, Cornwall, presents a list of successful presenters that will be familiar to radio listeners in the area.
They include breakfast host Victoria Leigh and host Matt Rogers, both formerly of Heart; and two veterans of Plymouth Sound and Radio Plymouth: Gavin Marshall by day and evening presenter Martin Mills. They are supported by other talented presenters including Mark Hill, Jamie Reed, Richard Woods, Matt Tidball and Shane Solomon.
The station’s goal is to play hits from the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s, or, as Mr. Marshall said, âThe songs you danced to in nightclubs 20 years ago. “
It is described on the Ofcom website as: âAn open and accessible radio station created by and for the people who live and work in Cornwall. “
Rewind Radio broadcasts on DAB (Digital Audio Broadcasting) via the Cornwall Multiplex, where several radio stations are grouped together. But its internet reach is global and the station is already loved by pop fans in Australia.
The company was incorporated in June 2021, with directors Richard Woods and Jamie Reed, formerly of Plymouth Sound, and a head office in Redruth.
This is the first new radio station to be launched in the region since the expanding Bauer Media took over Radio Plymouth and renamed it under its Greatest Hits Radio network in September 2020 and introduced national content. to replace the presentation of the native city.
Rewind Radio was created during the coronavirus lockdown and has started testing streaming on its website and on an Alexa Smart Home skill.

âThey started playing music on internet radio during the lockdown, found a request and thought ‘why not give this a try? “” said Mr. Marshall.
âIt is now the region’s first new radio station in a long time. Many more were bought by national companies and do not broadcast locally. We wanted real, truly local radio, with great music, and the feedback from audiences today (launch day) has been astounding. We have received so many messages including people listening online from Africa, Barbados and Australia. “
