Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said on Friday that she wants an immediate end to the war in Ukraine, and related sanctions, in the interest of the lives and livelihoods of people around the world.

“Because of the sanctions and counter-sanctions, not a single country, but rather the whole of humanity, including women and children, is punished,” Hasina told the 77th session of the General Assembly of United Nations, pointing out the high inflation in his own country.

Hasina also marked the fifth anniversary of the mass exodus of Rohingya refugees to Bangladesh, which sheltered more than a million of them from neighboring Myanmar. Hasina said the world should work to bring them back to Myanmar.

“Not a single Rohingya has been repatriated to their ancestral home, Myanmar, despite our bilateral engagements with Myanmar, our discussions with our partners in the trilateral format, and our engagements with the UN and other partners to assist Myanmar. to create the necessary conditions for a safe and dignified repatriation,” she said. .

Hasina called climate change one of the greatest threats to humanity and demanded that the global community promote inclusive action to combat it.
