Group of volunteers help DSWD install emergency communication lines in central Visayas – Manila bulletin
To ensure emergency communications are open in the central Visayas, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) appealed to the Federation of Radiocommunication Volunteers (FVRC).
The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) accredited group assisted DSWD Field Office VII by installing two-way portable radios to connect the FO’s regional warehouse and its Emergency Operations Center (EOC).
“Installing the portable radios is a reliable way to ensure that communication lines will always be available during disaster response operations in the region, as network signals remain intermittent in the central Visayas,” said the DSWD in a press release on Friday, December 24. .
The DSWD also cited the assistance of the FVRC to connect its Field Office VII with the Visayas Disaster Resource Center (VDRC) in the city of Mandaue, Cebu.
He said the group has coordinated with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) to install a spare antenna to the DSWD FO VII to connect with the VDRC in the city of Mandaue.
