Gopher Women’s Hockey Adds Minnesota-Duluth Player
The Golden Gopher women’s hockey team and head coach Brad Frost are pleased to announce the addition of Lizi Norton, a defenseman from Orono, Minnesota, who will join the Maroon and Gold as a graduate transfer for the season. 2022-23.
Norton will change her pantone of maroon and gold when she joins the Minnesota Duluth Gophers where she has 32 points and six goals in four seasons. The veteran defenseman will be Minnesota’s ninth fifth-year skater in 2022-23 as she adds 126 career games to an already seasoned roster. Norton was previously a teammate with current Gophers Taylor Heise, Abbey Murphy, Maggie Nicholson, Gracie Ostertag, Makayla Pahl and Madeline Wethington on USA’s gold medal-winning squads at the 2017 and 2018 U18 Women’s World Championships.
“We’re really excited to have Lizi on our program,” Frost said. “She has played important minutes in the WCHA and has great experience in big games. Lizi will fit very well into our team.
Norton, a disciplined defenseman who played a key role in the Bulldogs’ run for the 2022 NCAA championship, has only taken 13 penalties in four seasons. She recorded eight blocks and a plus-3 rating in Minnesota Duluth’s four postseason games last season. Norton also brings many academic accolades to Gopher’s list as a three-time WCHA Scholar Athlete and WCHA All-Academic Team winner.
Norton joins four incoming freshmen – Josefin Bouveng, Allie Franco, Madison Kaiser and Nelli Laitinen, to form the new class of Gophers for the 2022-23 season.
