MENLO PARK, Calif .– (COMMERCIAL THREAD) – Airbus Ventures congratulates LeoLabs, Inc. – the industry’s leading provider of commercial radar tracking services for low Earth orbit (LEO) objects – on its latest strategic addition to the company’s growing global constellation of LEO sensors . News of the Azores space radar, scheduled to operate in the first half of 2022, follows the company’s $ 65 million Series B financing round. With the support of Insight Partners, Velvet Sea Ventures, Airbus Ventures, WERU Investment, Space Capital and Horizons Ventures, LeoLabs has raised over $ 100 million in total capital to date.

“This new funding is the fuel to launch the next phase of LeoLab’s growth, which begins with the deepening of our European operations,” noted Daniel Ceperley, CEO and co-founder of LeoLabs. “With our early investors by our side, we are expanding our global radar infrastructure, rapidly expanding existing capabilities for tracking orbital debris in commercial LEOs. We look forward to further engaging with ESA, EU ESS and Member State initiatives, among a cohort of influential partners in the continent’s defense and trade sectors. ”

More than 27,000 orbital debris is tracked by the Space Surveillance Network (SSN) of the Ministry of Defense. according to NASA. However, as LEO business activity accelerates, LEO assets are expected to increase 25-fold over the next five years. As a result, a market-driven spatial infrastructure is needed to meet a critical demand for data mapping. Due to its strategic location in the Atlantic, the Azores Space Radar will increase the frequency and depth of visibility of orbital debris by LeoLabs.

“Under Dan’s exceptional leadership, LeoLabs has become a vital force in spatial situational awareness, demonstrating proven tools and technologies not only to ensure the success of the constellation of satellites, but also to track objects from a a way that can support safe and reliable means of developing low earth orbit in the face of burgeoning commercial and government deployments, ”stressed Lewis Pinault, partner of Airbus Ventures. “The Airbus Ventures team is delighted to see the company’s data-rich services advance new platforms to ensure the optimal health of our home planet. ”
