DVIDS – News – Champions of Freedom back from 5th and 7th Fleet deployment
YOKOSUKA, Japan – Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 15 “Freedom Champions” and members of Naval Oceanographic Antisubmarine Warfare Center (NOAC) Detachment 701 returned from deployment on October 16.
DESRON 15 and NOAC embarked aboard the only U.S. aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76) for a deployment while serving as Sea Combat Commander (SCC), a tenant of the Composite Warfare Commander.
The CSC reports directly to the Carrier Strike Group (CSG) 5 for tasks involving anti-surface and submarine warfare in the defense of attack group assets.
“I am happy to see our sailors come back from a long deployment in the Fifth and Seventh Fleets,” said Captain Chase Sargeant, Commodore, DESRON 15. 7th Fleet support in Yokosuka, Japan. These sailors have always proven themselves capable of adapting to anything, including adding tasks to the Fifth Fleet.
Throughout the deployment, the SCC team participated in numerous theater security cooperation events involving naval forces including Singapore, India, Pakistan, United Kingdom, France and Germany. During these events, CSC and partner nations operated, trained and communicated together in a transparent manner while exercising integrated maritime operations in an all-domain combat environment. Built-in professional engagements allow the US Navy and its allies to build on strong existing relationships and enhance collective preparedness and response to any situation.

The Ronald Reagan Carrier Strike Group, consists of Carrier Air Wing 5, DESRON 15 and was accompanied in this deployment by the Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Shiloh (CG 67) and the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Halsey (DDG 97).
The Ronald Reagan Carrier Strike Group is deployed to the U.S. 7th Fleet area of ââoperations in support of a free and open Indo-Pacific region. US 7th Fleet is the largest forward deployed fleet in the world, and with the help of a network of alliances and partners from 35 other maritime nations, the US Navy has operated in the Indo-Pacific region for more than 70 years, providing credible and ready forces to help preserve peace and prevent conflict.
