150 new Public Safety Network sites delivered
The NSW government provided 150 new public safety network radio sites, increasing operational and critical communications coverage for first responders.
Along with Australia’s triple zero emergency hotline, PSN is New South Wales’ most critical communications network.
Through the Critical Communications Improvement Program (CCEP), NSW Telco Authority is expanding the PSN footprint for Emergency Service Organizations (ESOs). This radio infrastructure offers enhanced encryption options for first responders, allowing teams to communicate over a single, integrated network.
NSW Telco Authority Acting Managing Director Kristie Clarke said the delivery of 150 new sites was an important step in keeping the community and first responders safe.
“This significant achievement brings us one step closer to fulfilling the NSW Government’s commitment to build a unique integrated radio network to improve critical communications coverage for state emergency services,” said Mrs. Clarke.
“It’s technology that saves lives. PSN will consolidate several separate agency radio networks into a single network, allowing critical communications to occur over a resilient and efficient network.
“From Tweed to Bega and west to Broken Hill, we are investing in first-class communications infrastructure to protect people and places. “
Ms Clarke said PSN sites were crucial in protecting communities and supporting rural fire departments, police, fire and rescue services, ambulances and state emergency services during the bushfires in the black summer 2019-2020 and the floods of March 2021.
“Through CCEP, the NSW government is investing more than $ 1.3 billion in critical communications, the largest such infrastructure investment in a generation,” said Clarke.
CCEP expanded the land cover of the NHP by 10 percent to over 41 percent of the state, the equivalent of over 80,000 km². Population coverage increased from 86% to 94%, an increase of over 600,000 people.
